Clothing Alterations is my passion - and would like to share that passion with you..
I would rather alter than make!!  And yet I usually hear the opposite. "I would rather make than alter".  Altering a "readymade" garment is TOTALLY DIFFERENT from making a garment.  Patterns can be adjusted BEFORE the garment is made.  But once it is cut and sewn together, the method used to alter it will not be the same method a person would use to alter a patterm.  And this is where most people come unstuck.  They are thinking about what they would do to a pattern instead of what they have to do now the garment is made.

Every "body" has a need at some time to have clothes altered.  A garment can be ruined because it is altered incorrectly, and that means a total waste of money.  Usually this happens because people are trying to save money by doing the alterations themselves.  Even with basic sewing skills, if they have no prior knowledge of how to accomplish the garment could be destroyed.

I am constantly looking at ways to pass on my knowledge, and the first is the FREE Monthly Newsletter which offers you hints and tips on clothing alterations.  My book     Genie Clothing Alteration Secrets Revealed     is a beginners guide to clothing alterations, and there are also Clothing Alteration eBooks on specific topics (more being developed), and the lastest is the Clothing Alteration Home Business Package

Electronic Version NOW available

This book covers the most common clothing alterations you will come across beginning with hems on trousers or jeans.  But it's not just about how to shorten, because shoes and leg styles make a difference in the length a pair of trousers should be worn and this is covered as well.  We look at how to get the right lengths and why one pair of trousers may be different from another.  It takes the mystery out of clothing alterations.  As a bonus, my invention the "Jean Genie" is attached to the inside front cover of the book.  You will always cut the correct hem allowance for jeans with the Jean Genie, and it allows you to sew a professional jean hem with your domestic sewing machine sewing over the THICK SIDE SEAMS.

But it's not all about hems.  There are illustrations and step by step guides on how to replace a zip in a pair of dress trousers and jeans.

On top of that is my technique for taking in which means you can achieve a successful clothing alteration 100% of the time by following the technique.

The electronic version of this book is now available.  This version is a little cheaper to purchase PLUS you will be saving on postage, however you will not receive the Jean Genie because it is only available on the front cover of the physical book.  Should you decide in the future (after you purchase the ebook) that you would like the hard copy, I am sorry but you would have to pay the full price plus postage.  The electronic version is identical to the physical book as far as content is concerned.

Jean Genie Video

The Jean Genie is my invention for sewing jean hems using your domestic sewing machine.  There are similar products on the market, however the Jean Genie also ensures you get the hem allowance accurate and makes sure you cut on the correct line.

One of the comments I received in my shops from customers was "I can't take up my jeans on my domestic sewing machine", yet I only had domestic sewing machines in the shops.

In fact we would shorten jeans for large Jean manufacturers from their shops, going over every day to pick up and drop off, and we used my technique for sewing a Jean hem which is sewing "Topside" and using two threads in the machine which were chosen to match the colour on the jeans.

Did you know that if you take a kharki thread colour and mix it with a burnt orange thread colour you will get a colour that is not completely burnt orange, but has a tinge of green.

All this information on how to shorten jeans in is my book Clothing Alteration Secrets Revealed, AND you receive the Jean Genie which is on the inside cover, AS WELL AS a DVD on how to use the Jean Genie.

You can charge AUD$15.00 to shorten jeans for friends and family or as a business working from home, and the hem looks very professional.

Currently only available with my book Genie Clothing Alteration Secrets Revealed.

Hi Judith,  I just received my Business Package parcel.  I am so very happy with it.  I will put all of this knowledge to good use and it is just what I was hoping for.  I am so thrilled with all of the customer service advise and the quality of this information.  I really feel confident I can now go forward and promote my business with a high standard in product and service.  You are really helping my life on so many levels.  Thank you so much.  Bless you - Margaret - Canada - February 2012

H i Judith, I am writing to thank you for the knowledge/guidance and support  you are sharing with us all in your wonderful book,” Clothing  Alteration Secrets Revealed”.  I tended to treat alteration from a dressmaking point of view, and at times get myself into trouble as these techniques are not appropriate with clothing that are already created.  Your very well illustrated guidelines, make it easy to achieve the goal set out with each alteration. I also thoroughly  enjoyed the classes I attended with you at the sewing guild convention in September.  You certainly know how to make the learning experience fun. Thanking you,  Robyn Bauer

I never thought clothing alterations would be so interesting.  I enjoyed popping into your workshops at the convention in Tasmania, and because of that attended the workshop at Gerroa whilst you were in Sydney.  My attitude to alterations has changed because of your workshops and I am extolling your virtues.  Cheers Shan, Australian Sewing Guild Convention Committee Member

Hi Judith
Just thought you would like to know the ladies of the ‘gong and Gerroa are raving about your workshops and are now enthused and checking out their wardrobes to see if they can alter some of their older garments.
Many thanks for taking time out to teach them, know you were appreciated. Hope you had a good and uneventful trip back home – I really enjoyed convoying with you south – so much more interesting than travelling on ones own.  Hugs  Merri

I assisted Judith in a workshop that I had organised for the Australian Sewing Guild and was envious of the participants and what they were learning!  So much so that as soon as I could, I attended Judith's workshop and the rest they say is history.......  Since attending Judith's  workshop, I have left my fulltime employment and opened my own Alteration business in Rockhampton.   Judith is only a phone call away if I get stuck with a tricky alteration and her support and advice is invaluable.  I have called my business I Sew and I am located at Shop 2/71 High Street, North Rockhampton, QLD 4701. Although I have been doing alterations and repairs for several years, your book has already been a help and introduced me to a new approach - especially trouser shortening!  I am looking forward to using the Jean Genie.  Back last year I was hemming a pair of jeans and got to the thick seam when the needle jammed (I was using a jeans needle) and broke - and so did the machine.  It cost me a new computer motherboard (200 pound!)  Emmeline, UK
