Shortening sleeves or hems on leather does not have to be difficult. The secret is using double sided tape to hold the hem allowance up. But not just any double sided tape. Go to a sail maker and purchase the double sided tape they use to make sails. You can get different widths, but I usually get the 1cm (1/2”) wide one. For shortening sleeves on a leather jacket, after you have cut and before you sew the lining back on to the sleeve, stick the sleeve hem allowance up using the tape. The tape should be attached at the fold of the new sleeve length. At the very end, which makes it a bit messy because have to keep the length correct and at the same time attach the tape. The tape is double sided, so have the sleeve opened in full and stick the tape around the new length. If you are not sure where this is then mark around the new hem allowance. Place the tape on the edge. The opposite side of the tape will still have the paper on it. Fold the hem allowance up and pull the paper off, securing as you go. As I said it is sticky and a little tricky, but holds the hem allowance up without any problem. Then you can sew the lining back onto the hem allowance, and voila the hem allowance will not come down.
Never iron leather.
