Maternity clothes can be made from existing pants or jeans.  Just unpick the side seams and cut across underneath the zip and insert a piece of stretch fabric.  You may need to sew some elastic at the top.  It is a good idea to cut the fabric so that the top section is curve upwards to allow for growth.  So the fabric will be square on the sides and the bottom, but will be curved around at the top.  If you are using two pieces of fabric together, place them so the right sides are together and sew across the curved top.  Sew some elastic in between but attached to the inside piece.  Attach to the sides and bottom.  You now have some pregnancy pants.

Want to wear something comfortable around the house without spending a fortune.  Take an old teeshirt, and cut it so that it covers your bust.  Mark up from the hem line so you get a straight cut all the way around.  Buy some two way stretch fabric in a similar colour and cut a front and back making sure to flare out at the sides, making sure that the top of the fabric is the same measurement as the top of the tee shirt.  Sew up the sides and join onto the tee shirt.  If you want to play around, get some fabric paint or beads and sew onto the bodice.

You dont have to go out and buy maternity jeans, if you have some spare jeans lying around.  You can unpick the sides, unpick the band from one side to the other and discard.  You have two choices with the zipper.  Cut below the zip from side to side or cut half way through the zip.  If you do the latter make sure you sew some stitches at the cut section so the slider does not come off.  I usually use pliers and take the top silver or gold clip at the top of the zip off and reattached at the top of the cut zipper.  Also cut with the slider down.

Get some good thick stretch fabric.  Fold in half (with a curve upwards in the centre, and attach back on to the jeans.  It may be adviseable to sew some elastic at the fold before you sew back on to the jeans.

If you want to wear your jeans during your pregnancy consider cutting out the front panel and replacing with a piece of stretch fabric.  I fold the fabric over so the fold is at the top and I insert a piece of elastic so it gives support.  I also shape the stretch fabric so it is more curved at the top.  Also when you cut through the zip to shorten, take the zip stopping off the top of the zip, and reattach it below where you are going to cut.  I usually pull the teeth out so I dont have to sew over them.
