Buying clothes that are too small

I read a blog recently where it was recommended that you should buy your clothes small and release the seams, rather than buy too big and take in.  I was surprised that this recommendation.  One of the major problems with buying clothes too small and releasing the seams is the fact that a lot of the time the seams are “clipped” for movement.  If you have ever made a garment you know that you need to clip around the bust area or anywhere where the garment has to curve into the body.

Not only that, some garments has a very small seam allowance, which means you could buy something that is too small for you and not be able to release anything in the seams……

If you do find a garment that you love but they don’t have your size, then buy a size bigger, and take the garment in.

In my book Genie Clothing Alteration Secrets Revealed, I have explained my technique for taking in.  Some might say its very basic, and to them I would say - “Yes it is basic”.   I have always worked on the principle - “Keep it simple and logical”   I explain a technique that will guarantee you get it right 100% of the time.

Happy sewing
