Replacing Sherring Elastic
When sherring elastic looses its elasticity, you need to unpick the old elastic and replace. If you are using an industrial machine, you can wind on to the bottom. If you are using a domestic I find it easier to wind the elastic on to the bobbin by hand. Make sure that the elastic is firm on the bobbin.
The wider the stitch width the more gathered the elastic will become. The stitch width is the length of the stitch. You also use a long stitch when you want to gather fabric. Usually I have the stitch length on 5 for sherring elastic.
You can also buy different sizes of sherring elastic. If you are using a domestic sewing machine I would recommend getting the finer elastic rather than the thicker elastic. The finer elastic will run through the bobbin easier.
Happy sewing
