Lining up zipper with stripes or sections

Putting in a zipper can be easy if there is no pattern or sections to line up.  But sometimes you will come across a garment which needs to have both sides lined up because it has a certain pattern to the fabric, or you have a waist or yoke to line up on both sides.

I usually sew the zipper in on one side.  Then I place a nick in the zipper on the opposite side of where i want to line up.  Then I pin the zip in making sure to place the nicked section of the zip at the stripe or waist line or whatever it is you are trying to line up.

Another way is to sew in one side, then catch the zipper to the section with a few stitches.

happy sewing
