Machine Sewing
You do not need to buy an industrial machine if you are going to perform basic clothing alterations, and/or do some dressmaking from home. I remember when I opened my first clothing alteration shop. I had a mini Elna Sewing machine and a very old over locker borrowed from my sister in law Gloria. I had a gentleman walk past the shop and stop. He stood at the door and said “You can’t do alterations with those machines!” I just smiled and said I would be fine. The rest is history. That shop was so successful, and I only had domestic sewing machines and over lockers. Industrials are great machines, and are great for doing things like curtains and other heavy duty or large jobs. Another reason people like industrials is because they allow the fabrics to lay flat when sewing, whereas a domestic usually has an arm (although some have the flat section which can be attached).
Whatever your preference, always take each job on its merits, and do the best in terms of workmanship.
Happy sewing
