Haberdashery or Sewing Notions is the tools you need to perform certain types of sewing projects.  In Clothing Alterations there are a number of tools that you must have.  When I say must have I mean without them your job will be harder to perform the clothing alteration.

 Lets take a look at shortening the length on a dress.  You would think that you should be able to determine how much you want to take off the dress, and you would then mark up from the existing hem line - right?  Wrong!!!!!  That might work some of the time, but there will come a day that you do that only to find that the back is shorter than the front.  Imagine if this happens on an expensive dress?  In the haberdashery store you will see a Chalk Puff Hem Marker.  This wonderful tool allows you to mark a straight hem all the way around a dress.  Usually the person is in the dress, with shoes on.  This is just one of the many tools I would suggest you own in the sewing room.

 Do you own a pair of good quality sewing scissors?  I have a pair of scissors that I have owned for years and years.  I take them to get sharpened about every three months (because I am using them all the time).  I do take them to a professional who uses a diamond sharpening disc.  The point is I only use these expensive scissors for cutting fabrics.  I do not allow anyone to touch them and they are certainly not used cutting paper or anything else.
